David Tang
Mr. Tang inherited his music talent from his mother Tang Minnan, the concertmaster violinist of Central Opera House for 30 years. Beginning at the age of 15, he studied French Horn with Mr. Wang Yucai, the Horn principal of the Opera House, and then Mr. Yang Jie, the principal of the Central Ballet Symphony Orchestra. David entered China Children’s Art Theatre at the age of 19, and was a professional musician in the theater orchestra from 1979 to 1982. In 1981, he was seconded to the Central Opera House for the performance of the Carmen Suite under the famous conductor Zheng Xiaoying. David taught the French Horn at Beijing Youth Palace in 1980. After moving to the United States, he participated in the Mormon Symphony Orchestra (2017-2018), Mission College Band (2018-2019), and Newark Symphony Winds (2015-present). In 2019, he started Bay Area Chinese Brass Quintet with Kwang Jen and other teaching artists.Learning wind instruments, especially brass instruments, does not need to be learned at a very young age. It is usually better to learn when the child’s physical development is mature. Generally, it can be more than 7 years old. It is necessary that this will pave the way for children’s future study. The French horn is considered to be the most difficult instrument to control like the oboe. It has a long body, a wide range, a lot of overtones, and a deep and small horn. My daughter has studied the French hone with Mr. Tang for two years. She has been able to play Mozart Concerto since she can’t understand the staff. Especially this year, my daughter joined the bay area youth Symphony Orchestra. My daughter is so happy. The teacher here says her French horn tone is particularly beautiful and clean. Now because of the epidemic situation, I can’t go to Mr. Tang’s house to have a lesson, and I can’t hear the wonderful sound of Mr. Tang’s French horn.. Now we start to have a class in the Internet.
