Mr. Jen was born in Beijing in 1954. His father was a famous composer and also the first choir conductor in the Central Symphony Orchestra. Kwang learned the trumpet from Prof. Ji Ruikai of the Central Conservatory of Music for 4 years, and was accepted by a military performing arts troupe afterwards. In 1978, he went to Hong Kong Tsing Hua College majoring in the trumpet, and joined Hong Kong City Symphony. In 1982, Kwang was admitted to Vienna National Music Conservatory to study the trumpet under Prof. Adolph Holler. Since his immigration to the United States in 1985, he played in San Francisco Oriental Orchestra (1987-90), East Bay Symphony Band (1992-2000), a symphony orchestra in New York in 2010, and Mormon Symphony Orchestra 2017-18. Mr. Jen has also conducted choruses, orchestras, bands, and a Chinese orchestra in the Bay Area. He founded the Bay Area Chinese Brass Quintet in 2019, and currently lives in Fremont. Teacher’s WordsI summarized a set of practical learning materials for the trumpet, including the best textbook Alban. Many of my students obtained examination certificates of the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music. Many of them have participated in youth symphony orchestras around the Bay Area. Some have now taken the Trumpet as a major in colleges.
Reviews
I’m an engineer in the Bay Area. It is my honor to make a recommendation for Mr. Kwang Jen. Mr. Kwang was my daughter Annie’s trumpet teacher. He is an excellent professional trumpet player with decades of stage performance and classroom instruction experience. He is not only welcomed at concerts, but also highly pursued for teaching. He is a diligent teacher and a good friend.

Teacher Jen is a very good artist and trumpet teacher. He has rich performance experience and teaching experience. He is very patient with my nephew Liu Fengrui ’s trumpet teaching. He also pays attention to methods. The mischievous little nephew likes him very much and keeps making progress under his guidance. I am very honored to meet a mentor and friend like teacher Jen in my life. Thank you very much!
